Licensing Scheme
Cirrus Migrate Cloud supports the the following scheme: Credits (Prepaid) and Subscriptions (Postpaid).

Credits-based licensing is similar to a prepaid phone card where migration license credits can be consumed and refilled at any time. Subscription-based licensing is a post-paid licensing scheme that migration usage is metered and billed on a monthly basis.

License schemes can be chosen whenever a project is created. Different licensing schemes can be applied to different projects at the same time.

Licensing Credits (Prepaid)

Credits-based licensing requires various types of license credits (see below) to be purchased before migration can start. Each user has a License Key that can be used to store license credits that the user owns. To go to your license key, click on your avatar on the top and select My License Key.

Every project with this licensing scheme selected will also have a license key that belongs to the project. Every hosts in this project will automatically consume credits from this project-level license key.

License Credits can be transferred between your user license key and any project license key, provided that you are an admin of the project.

Types of Licensing Credits
The following types of licenses are supported in this licensing scheme.

Local Migration Capacity
When a local migration session is created, amount equals to the sum of all source volumes' block device sizes will be deducted from the project license key. Block Device Size is defined as the exact amount of bytes the block storage device reports when inquired by the host operating system, regardless of the content (filesystem/application data/files) of the block device.

Remote Migration Capacity
When a remote migration session is created, amount equals to the sum of all source volumes' block device sizes will be deducted from the project license key. Block Device Size is defined as the exact amount of bytes the block storage device reports when inquired by the host operating system, regardless of the content (filesystem/application data/files) of the block device.

Note: as of 3/28/2022, remote migration capacity credits are not in-use yet. Local migration capacity continue to be consumed for all types of migration sessions.

Host Migration License
Host migration license can be applied to a specific host in a project by consuming one unit of this credit. Once applied, for the next 60 days, migration capacity credits will no longer be consumed for migration sessions originating from that specific host.

To apply host migration license, go to the intended host's details page, click on "Settings" tab, and select "Activate License". Once applied, one unit of this license credit will be deducted from the project license key.

To learn more about purchasing license credits, see Purchasing Migration License Credits.

Subscriptions (Coming Soon)

Subscription-based licensing allows users to subscribe to a licensing plan based on usage. Users with active subscriptions will be billed on a monthly basis according to the subscription plan.

Projects can be connected to an individual user's activate subscription plan. Once connected, all migration sessions created in that project will be metered and billed to the user's subscription, including migration sessions created by other authorized users in that project.

Self-service Customer Portal is also available for users to manage their subscriptions and current metered usage.

Subscription Plans
Subscription-based licensing is coming soon. More details will be available here.
